In preparing for the Civil Society Days on 29-30 November, it is intended to draw upon the reports and conclusions of a small number of events taking place this year that engage civil society actors meaningfully and are directly related to GFMD themes.

- 19 September (Geneva) – Civil society process related to the“The Rights of Migrant Workers in an Irregular Situation and Members of their Families”: Day of General Discussion of the UN Committee on Migrant Workers.
- 23-24 August (Geneva) - “Joint Reflections on Migration and Development - A GFMD Symposium for Civil Society and Governments”, hosted and co-organized by the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the International Catholic Migration Commission. ICMC, as the GFMD Civil Society Coordinating Office 2011, has beens actively involved in preparing this Symposium as a space for Swiss and international Civil Society and governments to brainstorm about the outcomes of GFMD 2010, the connections between these and the GFMD 2011 in Switzerland, the role of Civil Society in the GFMD, and how to build on the efforts of 2010 to strengthen interaction between Civil Society and governments in the GFMD 2011 and in the period leading up to the next UN High Level Dialogue on Migration and Development in 2013.
